On our recent visit to Agra, we had our stay at The Gateway Hotel by Taj located at Fatehabad Road. The hotel is located at the most prime location with easy & convenient commutation from main road. The beautiful architecture and one of the named wonders of the world Taj Mahal is just 3 Km from Taj Hotel of Agra.
We have made an early check-in to the hotel. We have been welcomed by young smart staff members with some traditional tilak rituals, which impressed me a lot. While the staff members were completing our check-in formalities we were made to rest at waiting area and were also served with some really nice lime water, Shikanji – as we call them. The experience of services we have received at The Gateway Hotel Agra is unmatched, we felt welcomed with greeted smiles and their efforts to make us feel special during our stay.
We had a lovely stay at the hotel, it was our 5th wedding anniversary that we have planned to spend in Agra. The room was perfectly settled, neat and tidy. Our Taj facing room offers an excellent view of lovely monument during day, as the Taj is not lightened up in the night you can’t have a sight of it in night but the city glows beautifully.
The staff offered us a gesture of surprise complimentary anniversary cake waiting at our room while we went out on local market strolling. If I have to point them on their hospitality than yes, they deserve full points. The staff was really charming, disciplined, cooperative and well mannered. Room services were quick and prompt.
The only thing about the hotel was even though it is a part of The Taj Hotels & Resorts, this property The Gateway Hotel in Agra is a little turn off as a 5-star property. The garden area in front is quite small, the swimming pool is also small and not deep. I personally believe more sun beds should be made available to the guests. They also have a play area with a few playground equipment like a slide, seesaw etc. Overall the property is not very huge and not their luxury collection may be because the building is oldest one among all other comparative hotel properties in the area.
Apart from the 5-star thing the hotel is best in its services and an excellent staff. The Gateway Hotel has 3 restaurants in it. One is Jhankar known best for its traditional Indian Cuisine.
The Jhankar restaurant operates only for dinner and the timings are 19:30 till 23:30 hrs only.
The other one is HANGOUTGAD which is an all-day diner and serves all Indian and International Cuisine. The HANGOUTGAD offers buffet course at all 3 meals time with plenty of eating options. I loved the beverages range they offered from fresh veggie or fruit juice to types of fresh fruit smoothies. All the other food choices were remarkable and the staff was so helpful and ready to serve with our choice and requirements.
They also have a SkyDeck restaurant on the roof offering a great and clear view of The Taj Mahal, they have even set up a telescope to provide diners with a close-up view of Taj Mahal from the hotel itself and feel the touch before they give a visit to it. You can only enjoy this restaurant in non-hot days, not in April, May, June, July months as the sun is on its high to burn you enough.
For me it can be a revisit Hotel property in Agra with only one reason – its hospitality services and staff friendliness.
