Visiting East India is always on top of my list. We have been to Gangtok on our first wedding anniversary. With the plan of traveling to any place comes a challenge of finding a good property to stay. After searching for many hotels in Gangtok we have finally came across with Hotel Mount Siniolchu. The hotel is located on the top of a cliff away from the hustle-bustle of city. Offering most scenic view of Gangtok City and away from chaos. A peaceful location with refreshing memories.
The hotel comes in 3-star category of hotels. with a total of 30 rooms – the hotel is not very big, which means the restaurant and lobby area will be less crowded even if the hotel is fully booked. To make a choice of room is not difficult here as all the rooms are valley facing offering views of snow clad Kanchenjunga Mountain range.
The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. On our arrival at the Hotel Mount Siniolchu, the staff welcomed us with Sikkim’s traditional khada (which is a white scarf) and complimentary drinks. As it was our first anniversary trip to the hotel we have got some special arrangements done through them. When we entered the room, it was very well organized and arranged as per the requirements.
Our chosen room was the last room on the floor closer to outer sitting space where we have spent a lot of our time sipping tea/coffee after breakfast and taking breathless view of Kanchenjunga Mountain range. The K2 range can be seen through sunrise to sunset on a clear day.
The restaurant is at the top of the hotel offering more clearer view of the scenic land. Their breakfast menu is quite good with lots of variety. The restaurant offers multi-cuisine, local and traditional Sikkimese dishes. Bar has a selection of wines to complement the food.
The hotel has a spacious lodge area for visitors to sit and relax. The tour desk is always active for arranging sightseeing or trekking/hiking help. The main trekking/hiking attractions like Nathula pass & Tsomgo Lake required permit from Militants as the road to the location is very risky & rough, to add to this not every day whether is not suitable for travelling there. Travel desk can’t really help you to get the permit as they are the mediators only.
The very famous M.G. Road is at a distance of 5 minutes’ drive from the hotel. You can walk down to M.G. Road very easily and take a taxi on your return to hotel. The taxi service is very quick and they charge genuine charges as per the taxi service standards with no bargains. You can ask the travel desk to make taxi arrangements as well.
We have visited Gangtok in April month and the weather was quite cold whereas the plane areas are hot, so if you are planning around this period do carry a few warm clothes too or ask the hotel staff while making booking with them regarding weather conditions. Room heaters are not available in the rooms, just ask the staff to provide one if you feel cold.
Nearest airport to reach Gangtok is Bagdogra which is approximately 4 hours’ drive away. The hotel site offers free parking as well. You too get free Wi-Fi with your check-in.
Hotel Mount Siniolchu is one of the best hotels at Gangtok. For me it’s a completely must stay hotel if you are planning a trip to Gangtok anytime.
